You are one of the majority female shapes, classically know at the Pear or Triangle. Our childbearing hips look larger than they actually are because our shape is characterized by a defined, smaller waist & often narrow shoulders. You will often find when shopping, you buy a smaller top and a larger bottom.
What we need to do with Style lines is balance your top half with your lower bottom half. The way we do this is by visually broadening our shoulder area thus reducing the size of our hips.
Here are a few Hot Tips on How to Dress your Pear-shaped Figure?
Dress your Portrait! Draw attention upwards by adding a statement necklace, beautiful earring or a pop of color on the lip.
Finish your Jacket or tops at the widest area of the hips (your crotch level)Wear a looser top with slimmer fitting pants
A-line skirts are better for you then pencil skirts. Pencil skirts are painful to wear as they keep riding up higher than your waistline. This is because your hips are wider than your waist. You will find you will often need a belt when wearing pants as they gape in the small of your back. Belts are definitely functional rather than decorative.
Pants should be darker & plain in color. Avoid wearing printed pants as this just draws attention to your widest area. This ends up becoming the focal point. If you going to wear a print, wear It in a top rather than a pant or short.
A V-neck top is always great as it enhances the bust. It echoes the shape of an hourglass, the wide part of the shoulders widens this area whilst the V point, points downwards towards the waist creating a narrower waistline. Very flattering.
Keep your detail up towards bust & shoulder line. Steer away from any hemline detail on your tops. This accentuates the widest area of your body and the eye is immediately drawn to this detail.

If you haven’t heard the latest news, then you have been too busy! Cheryl Mackinnon and I started a Networking group in the Upper Highway area, it’s called “Great Women In Business”.
We would like to invite you to the next networking meeting where I will be speaking on “Confidence Is Key To Success”
Have you started the New Year off with a gym contract & huge aspirations to lose weight? Many of us start the year off with an eating plan or a “diet”. We feel that if we can do this we will be happier. Losing weight does not mean you will be happy. There are plenty of unhappy skinny people in this world & you don’t want to be one of them! Some people are quite content to be the size they are and are happy with their body image. It can be a little dis-heartening seeing ramp models dressed in beautiful outfits which we know we will never wear. To my Curvy clients, you too can look stylish & comfortable. You don’t have to weigh 50kg’s! We just do it in a different way. “Style has no size”
So, How do we embrace our curves with confidence?
Don’t wait to lose weight to look great
Having a great sense of style has nothing to do with your size. Buy fabulous items which fit you now. Clothing can always be altered to fit if you become smaller.
Dress for your body shape, not your size.
The way your clothing fits you are imperative. Look for clothing that shapes and contours your body. Emphasize your assets and disguise the parts you’re less proud of.
Don’t be afraid to embrace fashion trends
Pick out 5 new items for the season. It could be a new colour, print, an earring or necklace which is on trend. A new bag in a pop of colour is also fab! Work these into your investment wardrobe to create an updated look.
Wear clothing which skims your body
Opt for well-made clothing which is not too tight. Darts & panel lines create an illusion of shape. Stay away from garments which look like giant smocks, they are not flattering at all & will only make you feel larger.

New Years is all about new beginnings. Giving yourself a chance to make right what went wrong. It’s about putting new goals and challenges in place. Many of us have those empty speech bubbles… the ones you see in cartoons. Let me help you create a list to avoid that speechless moment.
8 Tips to making you feel confident & start on a positive note:
Have your haircut. Change your style or colour if you’re feeling brave. Trim those dead ends so you’re off to a fresh start.
Neaten up those nails. A new nail colour or something bright can psychologically improve your serotonin levels.
Do a Wardrobe detox. This helps to de-clutter your mind. Do the same to your office space.
Write a list of goals for 2018 and set dates by which you want to achieve them.
Write down 20 positive affirmations starting with “I am…”. Read these everyday to increase your confidence & help achieve your goals.
Book a facial or do a DIY at home. Cleanse your skin from all that excess sunscreen & get back that glow. A good exfoliation is always a great idea after a summer holiday.
Retail Therapy goes a long way after doing your wardrobe detox. Buy an investment piece during the January sales.
Stop thinking about everything you don’t have & start being grateful for everything you do have. Gratitude is key to happiness & a positive outlook on the year ahead.
There were 3 girls in my family plus my mom. For my Dad, travelling with us was so stressful as we brought our massive suitcases down to the car. This was probably one of the worst jobs trying to fit everything in. To top it all off, we used to run up and down the stairs as we realized we had forgot something. Today, my husband & Dad wished I had learnt what I know now back then!
Remember if you pack light, you can literally fit in 70+ Outfits into a 7kg carry on luggage bag with only 12 garments! Who needs more?
Here are 7 Packing Tips for your Holiday:
Lay your clothing on the bed and then eliminate one third – We always take too much! If you worried you don’t have enough, take laundry powder with for the odd item which can be hand washed.
Put your earrings through buttons so you don’t loose them, or use an empty contact lens case.
Put necklaces in between Glad wrap so they don’t tangle or thread them through a straw.
Turn your Blazers or jackets inside out so they don’t crease.
Roll socks and underwear, place in a zip lock bag and into your shoes.
Pack jeans & dresses, roll tops, pack belts round the edge of the suitcase.
Take small travel size items, glad wrap the top and then replace with caps to avoid exploding at high altitude.
Double bag toiletries.
Keep Toiletries in the suitcase for next time you travel.
Place shoes in first & fill the gaps with soft items.
Summer Holidays are about spending time at the beach or around the pool. My absolute favorite time of the year. A little Vitamin D goes a long way! What should we wear to achieve effortless Style this holiday?
Investment pieces are key to making it all work. Love every item you choose. Beautiful fabrics in simple styles ooze elegance. Choose your favourite jeans, most comfortable sneakers or sandals & your most versatile jacket or cardigan. If you a leggings kind of girl, these are great for a relaxed comfortable holiday look. (Don’t forget to wear a top which covers your bottom!) Simple T’s or a classic dress are great pieces to keeping it simple.
2. The Rule of “3”
Wear these 3 items at the same time!
Your basic outfit
Jewellry
A scarf, belt, statement shoe or handbag
Wear 3 colours at the same time!
This could be different tones of the same colour or different colours. Too many colours could look like a Christmas tree…unless this is the look you are going for.
Denim jeans
White T-shirt
Brown jacket & shoes
3. Focal Point
Create a focal point such as a beautiful earring, statement necklace or a coloured lip. A coloured sneaker or something metallic could create some interest to your outfit. This helps to achieve effortless style this holiday without trying to hard.
4. The French Hair
I love holiday time when I can just loosely tie my hair up in a bun. A few loose strands can look stylish. It’s cool & easy to manage especially after diving into the pool. Try a little less effort with your short hair…if you can!
5. Simplify Make up
I’m often torn between no make up or full make up! If you can’t go without makeup try this simple routine:
Moisturize & apply sunscreen
Use Kryolan foundation for a flawless look
I love MAC’s Black silicone pot which I use with an angled brush to create that liquid line above the top lashes. This is Waterproof and creates eye definition.
Waterproof Mascara of your choice. I use Clinique’s Waterproof Mascara but it’s up to you!
Pop on a clear or colored gloss to give you that ultimate Summer glow.
If you not mad about the dewy look you can finish with your KryolanTranslucent powder.
Since our last news item on our ‘Learn to Earn’ project in the heart of the Lamontville township, we have acquired and set up shop in a beautifully renovated container.
The kids seen here are keen shoppers looking for ‘best buy’ items, which include food and second hand clothes donated by Style-Me Image Consulting and other generous givers.
Again, many of the township kids are able to ‘spend’ the tokens they have earned by improving themselves by attending classes, getting good grades, behaving well, cleaning up, sharing and generally being helpful. We are ever grateful to all our sponsors and volunteers for their continued support.
Once you’ve gone through your Wardrobe Detox, please contact Daniyel from Style Me Image Consulting to arrange collection or drop off of unwanted clothing. We have a drop off zone at Cafe 99 Restaurant in Durban. Address: Shop 2, Silvervause Centre, 117 Vause Rd, Musgrave, Durban, 4001
